Why use iMap if I can create sitemaps with free services on the internet?
iMap is the better choice for a few reasons. iMap is seamlessly integrated with MobileMe and the Finder and so is tailored to work with your iWeb Site. iMap knows how to handle and read the files and place the sitemap in the correct place. All of this is done automatically – without any hassle. In addition to that, iMap can add meta-tags, ping Google or create verification files.
Requirements for iMap
- iMap works with any iWeb version.
- iMap requires Mac OS 10.5 or later. You can request an older version of iMap which runs on Mac OS X 10.4.
- You need to be a MobileMe user or publish to a folder. If you publish directly to an FTP server, iMap will not work for you. You would have to publish to a folder first and then manually upload your site to the server.
- For MobileMe users, it is suggested to be connected to the internet via cable.
Additional Information
- If you are a MobileMe or .Mac user and are using the default comments or hitcounters provided by iWeb, the addition of Meta-Tags with iMap will make you loose them.
- There is no or only very irregular support provided with iMap. iMap’s helpbook is very extensive and should solve most of your problems.
- The download of iMap does not guarantee you to show up on Google. By downloading iMap, you automatically agree to Guimkie’s EULA.
