iTweak On The Way
06 Feb '08 Filed under iTweak, iWeb Expander -
(iTweak is now available)
iWebExpander has been doing quite well in the past three months. It has become one of the most used applications in cooperation with iWeb and it makes us feel quite proud to find iWebExpander to be found in all forums.
There have been some issues with iWebExpander (like the application freezing) - but Jay and myself have looked into them and we have solved nearly all of them.
One thing was the name of iWebExpander is that it sounds totally stupid. I gave it this name because it related iWeb and the application itself and thus it would lend it very self. Yet now, with iWebExpander being so popular, I thought it would be a great opportunity to change the name.
So, iWebExpander is now iTweak!

Though just a name change is not all. iTweak will have all the features that iWebExpander, which are bug-fixed, but new features as well. These will be the new features for iTweak:
- Backup iWeb 08/iWeb 06 sites
- Add a favicon to iWeb
- Add Google Search to iWeb
- Add hitcounters to iWeb
- Add comments to iWeb
- Add a PHP Contact-form to iWeb
- Search & Replace function for any code…
If you want any other features, now is the time to ask for them!!!
And when will this new stuff come? I am so into working with it, that it will probably be done by the end of the weekend!

Hey Max,
I think iWebExpander is a great tool in conjunction with iWeb. Sounds like iTweak will be even better. A feature I would like to see is a browser check and redirect feature. I’ve run into issues using iweb and older browsers like IE6. I guess this is a fairly common issue and it would be great to be able to check the browser version and redirect them if necessary. I’m currently using a Java Script but it seems to be a fairly wide spread issue and one that would be a great add to iTweak.

darren,
so you want a feature that detects what browser it has and depending on that, it will redirect to a different url (site/page)?

That’s correct Max. Have you heard of the issue with iWeb pages being viewed in older browsers? iWeb pages in Internet Explorer 6 get scrambled some of the time. So if it can detect what the browser version is and redirect them to a mirrored site that would be extremely helpful. I’m currently running an iWeb site and then a simplified version of that site at a different URL for users that have IE6 or lower. Even when I view your site in IE6 most of the site is fine but for example the “integrating Rollovers in iWeb ‘08″ link at the bottom of this page is mostly missing. I’ve read several forums blaming it on either iWeb’s CSS or on the Java Script they are writing in the background. Maybe a better add for iTweak would be something that resolved these issues. Any ideas?

I’d like to have an “Add code to header” feature
(for drop down menus… the other body-parts would work as search&replace I guess, I hope…)
iTweak sounds good

Cedric,
iTweak will have a general search & replace function - but i guess i can make a special tab that will add things to the header…

I am looking for a way to sync my iWeb site published to a local folder to a remote folder. Is that possible or does one have to upload the whole site each time a change is made?

I’ve got the 1712 time out. Any news on the update… the iTweak. I’d like to add the favicon to my website. Thanks.

Max, I can’t wait for iTweak to come out. The sooner the better. However I think that one addition to the program might be relevant to many iWeb users. And that is a custom title for pages. The one what goes in between these tags: Custom page title. The title tags are found in the and tags.
I believe that we would not need custom title for each page. Just give us one field where we fill the title and hit one button and it will fill/overwrite the title tags on each page.
I think that maybe the Search and Replace function could do this but this would be sooo much easier. And it would save so much time. Especially if it would remember the setting even after you quit and re-launch the application.
What do you think?

Oops. The HTML tags are missing in the previous post. Hmmm…
Well the tags are TITLE Custom page title /TITLE
The tags are found in between the HEAD and /HEAD tags.
Please visit this page to see the exact example (part 7.1):

Thanks!

Cool! iWebExpander is awesome. I think that iweb 2 feature of web sniperts can be quite useful if somehow the head tag could be altered to use haloscan.

haloscan commenting is integrated

Hey Max thanks for all your work on this project. I feel like a heel asking this (since you’re doing it all without pay!) but any idea when iTweak is going to be released? I’m very anxious to try out some of the new features on a site I’m currently working on. Thanks, I sure appreciate you.

Hallo Max! I’ve been using Iweb Expander and I find it incredibly helpful. I can’t wait to be able to use iTweak, which seems to fix the annoying “freezing” issue. When do you think you’ll be able to release it?

Max, we’re desperate for iTweak! Don’t forget about us!

Max,
I’m with Cedric…. looking to be able to update header date. I use iweb but start with a blank page and put in my own look and sort out my own navigation…. what I would REALLY like is to be able to set the title field in header myself - so I can have meaningful information rather that HOME or ABOUT US (common on various sites) and not have to have cumbersome page names in IWEB. I would think each page would have to have some way of including what the title should be. I have tried updating the htmlheader data and running iwebenhancer but haven’t got it to work

Everytime I try to select my published site to process the application freezes on me and I have yet to get it to work. I thought the freezing issues were sorted out?????
