Apple recently introduced a brand-new version of it’s iLife. Incidentally, the new iLife does include a new version of iWeb (who would have thought that?). Although there are only a few minor updates, some of the new features change things in relation to iMap and iTweak.
Until now, iWeb had two publishing options: MobileMe or a folder. These two options remain. Apple however added a third option: publishing via FTP to your server. Houston we have a problem! All those who used to just publish to a folder and then upload to a server, will now upload directly using FTP. That is good for the iWeb-user, bad for iTweak/iMap user.
When the files go directly to the FTP server, without being published to a folder, iTweak/iMap can not edit the files and so fail to be functional. Neither iMap nor iTweak support the editing of files via FTP. Therefore, if you wish to use iMap/iTweak, then you must publish to a folder and continue to upload via an external client.
Of course, it does quite suck if you have to still publish to a folder even though iWeb now supports direct “FTPing.” We are already working on a way for iMap and iTweak to edit the files via FTP. We however have no plan when the updates for this will arrive. Stay put; subscribe to the blog for updates.
If you have been using MobileMe all along, you shouldn’t be running into any problems at all.
Hi!
I just installed iWeb 3.0
I will publish on a folder, as you suggest.
Apart from this, are there any other known problems when processing a 3.0 site with present iTweak and iMaps versions?
Thank you in advance,
Berok
Hi! It’s me agiain…
I have another question:
Didi you notice now iWeb has a function to publish just the differences between old and new update of the site?
Can I use this function and then re-launch iTweak and/or iMap? In other words: iTweak can be launched twice on a published site (on a folder of course) or it needs a freshly generated one?
Do I have to republish from the scratch whenever I make any little change to my site? Now that my site is growing this is a very long operation!
Bye!
Berok
Berok – No, I don’t think that there are any further issues. For the republishing, I think that will also work fine.
Max
Ok, so I can try the option to publish just the differences and then relaunch iTweak and iMap. Is that so?
(I’m not so good in english so I’d like to be sure…
)
Has anyone figured out a way to set the time/speed of the iWeb screensavers?
Here’s what I think would work (at least for now): Mount your ftp (sftp) site as a drive on your mac: Hit Command-K from the finder, put in ftp://mywebsite.whatever, then enter your user name and password. Your site will be mounted as a drive. Select it in iTweak and you’re good to go.
George,
Good idea – I actually tried that. The problem however is that the files in such a server are read-only. Hence, iTweak can’t really do anything with it.

how would i go about putting keywords in using itweak?
I used itweak to put a contact form on my site but when I do a test the email I get does not put the name of the person writing the email.
Why?
Thanks
Thanks for iTweak, great product!… Another problme I am facing is that in choosing the option to “choose a published site”, i go into my idisk and “Web” is greyed out. It seems that folder is a shortcut to a user library folder called “file sync” and the files sit within a sparsedisk image. How to get around this?
Is the syncing turned off?
Im using itweak in iweb 09, for use a contact form, and i have troubles, when i receive the email, it doesn´t show the fields of: NAME,EMAIL & SUJECT correctly, instead of this show me:
IP Address: Browser Info: //Referral :
can you fix this in the code??? or there is any way that we can do it??? thanks!
How do I use iWeb09 to password protect only 1 page on my website that has files on it but leave the rest of the site alone, be easy to do but dont know how to do this?
would be a good feature to password protect only a page or whole if users want it, apple never thought of this option… quite common area and still hasn’t got this function unless there is a way around this?
Hmm Interesting. I’ll checker out.
I put in 2 codes from StatCounter and everything worked fine.
Months later I added 2 more codes from StatCounter and now when any one of the four sites gets a hit, the other three sites also record a hit. How can I fix this?
(using iWeb ‘09)
Thanks.
I am new to web design and just designed/published my site with iweb 09. iTweak was recommended to me so I can add comments to my blog and portfolio page. Can I set these up and then just publish as I always do in iWeb? Or is it more complicated than that? Sorry for what may be a dumb question. I’m trying to learn…
Thanks for this…! I love it, but I have a problem. When i receive the email, it doesn´t show the fields of Name, Email and subject.
Can you fix it!?
Hey, iTweak rocks now that I figured out the “publish locally, then upload” trick.
One thing I’d like to figure out, though…for some reason, the “Your Name:” field does not come through on the emails I’ve been sending myself in testing. Not a big deal, but would like it to work.
Thanks!
When I run itweak, I get a back up error message. It happens when clicking the hitcounter tab.
I successfully used itweak and JSKIT to add comments to my blog,GREAT WORK, THANK YOU. So now I logged into Google friend connect… How do I delete posts I don’t want shown? Thanks in advance.
Have a few questions concerning adding a favicon to a republished site. Before refreshing a site I go thru steps 3-7 under adding a favicon to your site, whether iWeb 09 or DW CS3.
(1) I don’t get the favicon in safari but in Firefox and IE for the iWeb 09 site.
(2) I also noticed this when working with DW CS3 with Spry drop-down menu in the subheadings for Safari but Firefox or IE.
(3) and when QuickTime slideshows or videos are on a page in Firefox but not IE.
My question is are these items related?
Do I also need to remake a favicon before republishing and go thru steps 1-7?
I would appreciate your help! Thanks.
Sincerely,
Dénise
Hi,
I was just wondering how you are going with setting up itweak for iweb 09 when publishing to ftp?
Regards
Rob
Hello there,
I have been using iTweak, mainly just to protect “several folders” from a published “main” folder from iWeb, and when I do all the procedures that tutorials told me to do so, I do have a few issues:…..
First, , when I find the “Server Script File name”, for each folder I want to protect, (After doing the website password creation thing), once i get the password plus the Server Script File name, “for each folder” inside the main published by iWEB (I do not want to protect all PAGES, just a few and the contents inside of them), my question is,DO I Choose “Publish site” Do I choose this “MAIN FOLDER” or just the folders I want to protect (Obviously before applying the process into them), the main thing is that I have try to do this, and for some reason just protects the last folder of 5, the others are like never happened….
I believe that perhaps, this “hidden files” are the same and get replace every-time i do this process, any ideas, ?? Many thanks in advance… Cheers.
