I’ve been following the video #1. I clicked on iDisk, Web, Sites, and iWeb. I find nothing in the iWeb folder.
26 Oct 07 at 10:36 am
hm - did i mention a iweb folder in my video? you just go into the sites folder and then select your folder that is named after your site. the iweb folder is used for iweb 1.x only - so forget that one!

i have done as you said but google replies:
We couldn’t find your verification file. Make sure it is named correctly and is uploaded to the correct location.
We looked for your verification file, but couldn’t locate it
Now what??
thanks

hm - shastro, could you post/or send via email, your name of the google file and then the address of your site. the malimba.com site seems to not be made in iweb…
and as google said, check the url you have given them!

http://www.malimba.com forwarded to: http://web.mac.com/mauitango/
05 Nov 07 at 9:54 pm
hm - the google file, should be available at this address:
http://web.mac.com/mauitango/Mauitango/google27d6b8b252c62223.html
did you publish your site again or did you not place it in there?
max
06 Nov 07 at 12:36 am
yes i did place it in there, it IS there
06 Nov 07 at 8:25 am
its there now! no go ahead and verify it with google!
if you publish your site, the file will be overwritten. thats probably what happened. but if you verify your site once, it will save that you are the owner and just bug you that the file is not there.
max
07 Nov 07 at 9:56 pm
when i click verify it says:
We’ve detected that your verification file returns a status of 404 (Not found) in the header.
also 2. I’ve uploaded the file to http://web.mac.com/mauitango/ and can view http://web.mac.com/mauitango/google27d6b8b252c62223.html in my browser.
but if i clikc on this last link a page comes up that says
We are sorry but we can’t find the iWeb page you’ve requested
if you can pls reply to info@malimba.com
thanks

Hi, I just purchased iMap. I watched the tutorial, but the iMap I am looking at is not what you show on the tutorial. Mine opens up to the screen where I can add Meta-Tags and so forth, but that is not what you are showing in the tutorial. I am a little confused. Am I missing something? Is there a way for me to open up the screen you are showing in the tutorial with the iMap I just bought?
Thanks,
Arden

I have more questions. For some reason, it doesn’t seem to be working for me. I tried to use the menu I do have (with Meta-Tags and so forth), but it wasn’t working either. It asked me if I had done the “Choose Site”, but when I click on that and go to iDisk, it won’t let me select the Web folder, and I assume that is the one I am supposed to select.
I tried to go through the process with google of having my website verified, but I am getting Status 404 message saying it wasn’t found. I really thought I followed your directions on that one. But I wasn’t able to do the steps from the first video because I could never find that screen, so maybe that’s part of the problem. Sorry to have so many questions, I hope you can help me out because I would really like to have my website found by those seeking my services.
Thanks,
Arden

arden,
you have the newer version of imap. my videos are still on the old version.
for the choosing the site - do you have the idisk syninc activated? you need to deactivate that. check the faq.
if you get a 404 error, means that you are either using iweb 06 - which is not supported by imap - or you entered some wrong URLs in either the google account or imap. check them over

I got it to work (I think), thanks. We’ll see if I show up in google searchs in a few days.

I think there is an error in this tool. I got the tags added, but when I do, it changes the “bullet point” list on my web site to weird characters where the bullet points used to be?! This must be a bug the code iMap generates?
Another question: How do I confirm the sitemap and robot files got added? I am using a personal domain on .mac.
Thanks!
Mark
10 Dec 07 at 8:46 am
Mark - do not spam me here! It will not help you at all and only make me angry!!!!
if you would provide me your site i could take a look at your error - but your .mac account gives an error.
then, if you want to confirm they got added, then simply go to your idisk and into your website folder. you should find a sitemap and a robots.txt file

How and where do I go to find out the google name that Google has given for my site? This is a little confusing in your tutorial.
27 Dec 07 at 9:48 am
are you talking about the verification name? that you get if you watch the second tutorial.
27 Dec 07 at 4:41 pm
Hey Max, still looking for some advice regarding #36 and applescript errors ? I have been able to get the sitemap and robots posted, no luck with the meta-tags or verification file. Upon the “verify” command line, still receiving the 404 error.

Max, I emailed you earlier requesting help in getting my problem solved. I’m also getting the Error 404 message like Shastro in the earlier comments. I’m using a personal domain. Would appreciate your guidance.
06 Jan 08 at 6:33 am
Max-
I believe I followed the steps in the tutorial correctly, but after having my sites crawled,I am seeing this error in my GWA under my added sitemaps:
We’ve detected that you submitted your Sitemap using a URL path that doesn’t include the www prefix (for instance, http://example.com/sitemap.xml). However, the URLs listed inside your Sitemap do use the www prefix (for instance, http://www.example.com/myfile.htm).
Google gives you some explanation of how to fix this, however I can’t seem to open the.xml file to try and troubleshoot (it is coming up as a dreamweaver default file, but won’t let me open up in dreamweaver). My main site is http://www.kauaicreative.com if you need to look at it.
Also, could you recommend (or do as possible future tutorial?) a link that gives a tutorial on how to change how your site appears when showing up on a google search.

I would just like to say that I am a new user to IWEB and Mac as well. The whole process of building the website was awesome and fun. The verification process has been a nightmare!!!! I can’t believe Apple would build such an awesome tool and then have such issues with getting on a search engine. Max has been most gracious, patient and kind , even walking me through every step of his app. I have finally been verified by Google and I am now waiting to see my site in the search engine.
Thanks again Max for the tutorial and the app itself.
20 Jan 08 at 12:40 am
I’m a bit confused. First, I created a sitemap for my website only with the http://www.northshorerealestateonline.com as the address. But I received this error from Google:
Your Sitemap does not appear to be in a supported format. Please ensure it meets our Sitemap guidelines and resubmit.
Then I tried to create a sitemap for the .mac address; web.mac.com/myname/mywebaddresss, and it tells me that it can’t find the alias of the folder, which I confirmed is there and the idisk sync is turned off. I’m sure there’s an easy fix, but I just can’t figure out what it is!
20 Jan 08 at 12:51 am
HELP!!!! I’m not sure what I’ve done. Everything was working and I was verified. I followed you tutorial and now my site won’t upload at all. I’ve tried to republish the site and still nothing.

Hi I managed to get my site back up. I called MAC. I was told that going through this process cause problems with my site. I would really like you to help me get this going.

your site wont upload? that aint a imap problem AT ALL!!!! please provide me with more info. tell your tech guy he aint havin a clue!

21 Jan 08 at 12:28 am
I had a backup of my site, so everything is fine now with that. I called MAC apple care for help and the technical person I spoke to didn’t know allot about imap or what I was trying to do, but did say that what ever I was doing is what corrupted my site. Going by your message board, it looks like it’s working fro everyone else. I am not sure what happen. I did follow you video tutorial. Please help me. I would really like to try again although I am worried I might have problems. I have purchased a domain name from go-daddy ( kimmarquis.com). My .MAC address is web.mac.com/kimmarquis/iweb. I hope I’ve given you enough information
21 Jan 08 at 8:48 pm
@kim,
the problem seems to be that you have a publishing error with iweb itself. this does not have to do anything with the google tutorial, nor with imap.
the error you are getting, does it come up when publish your site from iweb, in iweb, to dotMac?
– oh, and respond to me with email, since this aint havin to do anything with this tuto.
max
26 Jan 08 at 1:58 am
I have gone through the iMap process for both verification and sitemap, however when I try to verify the site on the Google webmaster tools, it gives me the following message:
Verification status: NOT VERIFIED
Last attempt Jan 25, 2008: We’ve detected that your verification file returns a status of 404 (Not found) in the header.
It looks others have had similar issues.
26 Jan 08 at 2:13 am
Also, FYI, I’ve had to go through the written tutorial because the video only loads to about a quarter and then stops loading.
27 Jan 08 at 12:28 pm
Downloaded imap and went through the tutorials for imap in setting it up for an “other server”
I entered some key words such as industrial design and china in the meta tags section and gave it a 4 word description. I then chose the site within the named folder ( sites/cocoonid/ sites) that contains the iweb site and index file. I Selected “create” and 20 hrs later its still rolling! It took 10 minutes for you on a 5 page website. I have 28 pages but I can’t help but suspect that somethings wrong after 20hrs.
Did I do anything wrong?
29 Jan 08 at 1:33 pm
@ roman: you have the error, as well as others because you have entered a wrong url in google! check it over!
for the video - are you sure it stops?
@joseph: are you using dotMac? does it take that long for sitemaps and meta-tags or just the meta-tags? it will go faster in imap 2.3

Hi
My sitemap cannot be found my google. It seems to add the name of the site in iweb after the web address. Im not sure how i change this?
03 Feb 08 at 8:04 pm
Hi,
I am just wondering reading all this about imap. I have a site created on iweb and it already shows up on Google but only on Page 34 of 50 Search Pages . Could this ranking be improved by imap? Thanks in advance.

I registered with go daddy to put my bands name on my nautch@.mac account so I could add masking to change it to http://nakednautch.com which I currently have on this is original iweb CNAME
http://web.mac.com/nautch/Site/NAKED_NAUTCH_HOME.html
I have been trying this for weeks now on my own and was only able to get the original CNAME verified but I want the name nakednautch.com to come up in the google search results.
I would appericiate if you could simplify the process for me by answering the following
1. In iMap what field is best suited for my needs .mac, Personal Domain(.Mac) or
or Other Server? I was using Other Server no luck.
2. In iMap what should I put in the Domain path field? nakednautch.com?
3. Meta-Tags field in iMap can I verify here using Googles meta tag verification?
4. In the Ping Google field what should as the sitemap.xml?
5. In Googles Dashboard add to sites field what should I put?
I was putting http://nakednautch.com
I do apperciate the work you have put into this app and trutorials but unless I get this
site up and running on google they are no use to me so I hope to hear back from you
soon.

yeah thanks max your a great help i just have done exactly what you have done in the tutorial and well…
http://web.mac.com/alexmunro/Site_2/google10e95196b96fcd2a.html
this pops up and if i take away that code it takes me to my site i think its because of my idisk and how there’s alias’ for the web folder and it cant find it =(

do i have to do the whole video if i create a new page under the same site and if so i tried entering the url for it but it gives me an error
11 Feb 08 at 3:55 pm
I have successfully followed your video tutorial up until the point at which I receive the following error message ( as others have ) :
Verification status: NOT VERIFIED
Last attempt Feb 11, 2008: We’ve detected that your 404 (file not found) error page returns a status of 200 (Success) in the header.
I am receiving this after I have successfully uploaded the google verification file to the following URL :
http://www.justingreetham.dsl.pipex.com/rural/google381441a8f210f5d5.html
Can you help as this taking considerably longer than I want it to.
12 Feb 08 at 10:24 pm
I’ve waited patiently for your a response to my questions that were straight forward and clearly written unlike your directions in your tutorial. All these questions related to a feature you promised your program could provide but after hours and hours playing with it I was better on my own. For the record you should change the fact that you claim there are no free site map creators on the internet there are in fact there is a free tutorial of how to get on google with .mac with out paying a dime its just time consuming but so is waiting for your correspondence. If you can take my money then you can take the time to sit down at your computer that, “lets face your all ready at” and answer my questions.
13 Feb 08 at 9:52 am
chill,
check your mail and here are the answers:
1. you currently are supposed to use the dotMac one since your nakednautch.com site is not working. i cannot check how you had set it up, since it gives me a empty dotmac page!!!!
2. for dotMac you would just type in your username, for personal domain you would type nakednautch.com/SITE — but only if that is the way you have set the cname to work. again, cant look at it!
3. no. these meta-tags are different. you have to use the file.
4. http://web.mac.com/nautch/SITE/sitemap.xml or the personal domain url, but is not working now, so i cant tell you.
5. again, it depends on your personal domain. if it works, the let me know and ill explain to you what your url is. if you dont use the personal domain, then you give it the normal dotmac url: http://web.mac.com/nautch/SITE

Hi, after purchasing imap and watching the tutorial, I thought the whole process was rather daunting and complicated. But actually it is not. I had no problems to create a sitemap, meta-tags, verification file, ping google. The tutorial video sounds more complicated , the actual process is relatively simple. My Tip: Do not forget to upload
what imap created to your server!
20 Feb 08 at 6:55 am
So far so good! I have successfully verified and currently waiting for my sitemap to clear on Google.. I have a personal domain on .mac, forwarded (Cname) from Yahoo. Little tricky. I also have a DSL connection which makes meta tages drag on with timeouts and so on.. How important is it to have these mete tags? Will it make or break search engines finding my site. I tried publishing to a folder with meta tags ticked, uploaded everything and was unsuccessful. What are your thoughts on this. The video was great! Pay attention everyone!
Next step is to add my adsense search field in my site. I assume I need to have sitemap active before I can proceed with widget(websearch). Correct?
Also I need to apply all steps for getting on google and adding search widgets (adsense) when republishing each and everytime. Correct?
Please advise.
Thank you,
Todd

Max or anyone,
Thanks or anyones help. I am very new at this.
I have one confusion, that I know about, with what is defined as site_name. I have my own server therefore not using .mac. My web site is http://www.bahiavistalapaz.com. My web site file I load on the server is called Bahia_Vista. It is what I perceive as my site_name. It is one of a few files (sites) I have in my sites file on my computer. Is the site_name my Bahia_Vista file? I am confused as you mention the URL as being the domain/one of the page names, or what comes up when the domain is typed into my brownser. When I enter http://www.bahiavistalapa.com in a browser one does not see Bahia_Vista anywhere on the screen. If you type http://www.bahiavistalapa.com/Bahia_Vista it gives a 404 error. I have my server set to go to and open the master file Bahia_Vista (which contains all my site files, index.html, web page files, etc.) when one types in http://www.bahiavistalapaz.com. It then opens my Welcome page.
Anyone with a knowledge biscuit for me to chew on?
michael
21 Mar 08 at 2:56 pm
Michael,
I have deleted your comment from the site because I only want actual
comments there and not support queries.
In any case, yes, the site_name is the Bahia_Vista.
To get rid of the 404 errors, you need to change a preference in iMap
2.4. Go into the preferences of iMap and select to have your URL
without the folder (site_name). That should get rid of the error.
Max
21 Mar 08 at 9:26 pm
Max,
Thanks for the input This program is amazingly helpful for the less knowing ones. I also removed the site_name when submitting to google and the 404 error went away, hence only using http://www.bahiavistalapaz.com. All is verified and my sitemap is found and OK and shows 42 URLs with no errors or warnings found.
BUT!!
When changing the preferences in iMap “to have my URL without the folder “site_name” do I also remove the site_name from the “website path to sitemap!” part for the pinging of google if I assume this is telling google where to find my site map via a ping?
Thank you,
michael
21 Mar 08 at 10:33 pm
Max,
One last general question.
I have my own server.
Assuming everything is working fine, and next week I update my site.
I then use iMap, and create the site map, tags, robots, ping, then load verification file number in my site_file. Then I upload it to my server.
Do I then need to reverify with google and confirm my site map again? It makes sense that yes is the answer. Are there any steps to leave out except adding your URL to the Google Dashboard?
Thanks again,
michael
,
24 Mar 08 at 5:58 pm
For your first question, yes you need to change the path to what you said.
No, you do not need to reverify again. You only have to the Google stuff the very first time.
Max
30 Mar 08 at 6:16 pm
Thanks for all you have done to help folks with this program. I know this is a dumb question, but here goes. I use the personal domain option in .mac — When I enter my domain path into iMap, I use my personal domain, right? Not the web.mac.com one?
I watched the tutorial, which was great, but I couldn’t figure out which times to use which address. Thank you for the help.
Jason
01 Apr 08 at 10:55 am
Yes, you use the personal domain address.
