This is a problem that seems to occur very often in the new version of iWeb, 1.2. The problem is that you are opening iWeb – but you cannot select a button or menu. Everything is simply grey and cannot be selected.
The answer to this problem is – that there is no answer. There is only a kind of work-around that does solve it in 99.9% of all cases!

Simply follow the instructions below in order to get rid of that ugly problem:
- Open iPhoto. Select an Album with not more than 10 photos for time-consuming reasons.
- Now go to the Menubar at the top and select “Send (German: Bereitstellen)” and select to send the Album to iWeb as a Photopage.
- You can now close iPhoto and open iWeb. If it worked, you will see iWeb with all menus and buttons selectable. 50% of you might have not solved your problem yet. Continue with step 4 – all the other 50% (for whom the iPhoto trick worked) continue with step 6.
- The whole point with the iPhoto trick was to get something into iWeb in order to build on top of that. You can also send “stuff” to iWeb with any other iLife application. These include iMovie HD or Garageband.
- Simply open any of these two applications mentioned above and create something. Send this junk to iWeb and then close that application. Now open iWeb and continue with step 6.
- If the menus and buttons are still grey you are one of the 0.01% that have no future. The only way is to reinstall the iLife package and delete all .plist and cache files that relate with iLife!
- As your menus are free to be selected – click to add a new page or site that completely fit your future plans. After that you can delete the iPhoto (or iMovie, Garageband) page – but only after you have added a new page. Do not ever delete all the pages in iWeb at once. This is one of the factors that will result in having grey menus.
