We have been working on a new version of iMap that is about to be released. There are a bunch of new features and enhanced ones that all need to be tested. If anyone wants to test drive these new features and help us finish them off, then feel free to contact us at the following email address: beta@guimkie.com.

Major changes to iMap 2.7 include:

iMap is project-based. You can now create a project for each site you have in iWeb.

You can now verify either by uploading the HTML file or adding a meta-tag.

Meta-Tags are being added 2x as fast with less errors.

iMap has been localized into German. Anyone interested in localizing iMap then please contact us at the above email address.

We are expecting to push this update out to everyone by October 19th.

If you want to learn how to create a verification file for the Google Webmaster Tools and use the Tools, then take a look at the second part of this tutorial.

So, if you want to see how iMap functions and how easy it actually is to use it, go ahead and launch the video tutorial:

In the previous version (2.5) of iMap I had put together a brief help book. The help book covered quick solutions to some of the errors that iMap might throw at you. It turned out that the help book was a very good idea. I had basically gotten no mails regarding iMap errors in the past week. Makes me feel a bit alone – but I guess this is how it works when you have a help book.

So over the last week, I have enhanced this help book to be way better. Now it not only includes solutions to errors – but whole articles and a documentation as well. The amounts that I have written are just vast compared to the previous one.
Some say lot’s of documentation is a sign of a not-working or hard-to-understand application. Though, I don’t think iMap is hard-to-use at all; on the contrary it has just two buttons and several textfields.

I don’t know how this new help book will help or just confuse, so I need some help myself. I am looking for some beta-testers who simply look at the book and read through it. Besides receiving spelling and grammatical errors, I hope to get some tips on the actual content and structure as well.
If you are interested, then let me know by sending me a mail from the contact page.

The new help book will go into iMap version 2.6. Here are basic other improvements for the 2.6 version that we are implementing:

Buttons and textfields get enabled/disabled during runtime. For example, if a person wants to create a sitemap, the fields will only become editable if he checkmarks the option below. Same goes for hitting the “Create” button. That “Create” button will only be enabled if the user has chosen his site successfully already.

MobileMe and .Mac switch will be more apparent. Fields and labels will change from “.Mac” to “MobileMe.”

Improved label descriptions

Slightly less cluttered main window interface

If you have any other ideas that can give last minute improvements to iMap, then let me know.

By my plans, iMap 2.6 is the last release of any 2.X iMap. This will also mark the end of Tiger compatible iMaps.
iMap 3.0 will be Leopard only. The 3.0 version will see a major change in the interface and licensing. The interface will be tabbed like Coda (or Safaris preference panes) and much more organized and easier to use. The licensing will also change. Currently, iMap is being sold as a download with no sorts of license numbers or registration framework. I originally favored that method – but by now, we have started to convert the new iMap to be license based as it is much more secure and easier to handle.
One last major change, is the name of iMap 3.0. iMap gets confused with IMAP servers way to often; bad for us. Thus, we are thinking of a new name. If you have any ideas for new names, let us know about that as well. Thanks!

Believe it or not, iMap 2.6 and 3.0 will kick ass!

After having received some feedback from another developer, I went into heavily improving the backend coding of iMap. iMap has been made more stable and better working in nearly all processes. The only thing that still lacks is a stunning interface. Though that will come with version 2.6. The new version of has three main new enhancements:

iMap now has a full helpbook that will help you in understanding the errors and getting rid of them without sending me a mail.

iMap has now been updated to support MobileMe as well. You just have to select your option in the preference pane in iMap.

iMaps backend has been heavily improved. One of the improvements is a complete log system. iMap now logs every action it takes. Whenever you get an error, iMap will log it. You can then mail me these logs and I’ll look into fixing the problem or helping you out.

The update is downloadable via iMap itself. If you have automatic updates set in iMaps preferences, it will automatically notify you of the update. Otherwise you can just select “Check for Updates…” from the “iMap” menu item in iMap.

Enjoy the update!

Do you want new iWeb Templates? Go here

This Tutorial will show and help you how to get your iWeb-made-site on Google without any difficulties. This tutorial will also show you how to add Meta-Tags to your iWeb site and create a sitemap in a snap.

Now, before you start, let me give you a tip! Watch the whole tutorial through once, and then, only then actually do it while still watching it! That will make sure that you will get it correct in the very first place and thus, will save lot’s of time that you might later waste figuring out which step you missed!

Huddle, huddle and rush, rush will lead you absolutely nowhere!

This video tutorial on how to get on Google, will require you do buy an application called iMap for just €8.99. iMap will also allow you to add sitemaps, add meta-tags, ping Google or even create a Verification File. You will also have to sign up for a Google Webmasters Tools Account.

Now, add your Site to the following search engines, Google and Yahoo.

Ready to watch it?
Launch Tutorial
Two things I forgot to mention in the video:
- If you publish to a folder, you of course have to upload the edited files after iMap has created them!
- If you use a “Personal Domain,” the only thing you have to type in iMap 2.6 is your domain. You do not have to add your site/folder name at the end.

Well Done! You have now completed all the big parts of this tutorial and there is nothing in the way that could stop you getting on Google! Don’t forget that you have to repeat the process with iMap about everytime you publish your site.
If you have any problems while doing the tutorial (or more likely; afterwards), then drop me a mail. Please do not post any of your problems in the comments section below!
Now, iMap and iWebExpander are having some issues with the TimeOut error if you use .Mac.

The reason for this error is that .Mac is simply to slow. Thus, my software is not receiving any answer and so freezes. I’ve recommended to use a faster Internet Connection – but still, people get this error. I am also tired of answer a zillion mails about this. So – I will fix it once and for all.

I have had an update ready for quite a while – but I am planning to make a better fix. This fix will get rid of this error for 100%! So bear with me. I am planning to release the updates next week.

No need to worry!

Update: It’s solved! Updates will be sent out next week.

It’s the 23rd today and I am all out happy knowing that tomorrow is Christmas. Yes, I know, most of you are wondering why on the 24th! Well, Europeans celebrate it at night on the 24th and Americans on the 25th. In any case, Merry Christmas!

Yep I know, I am not that kind to just make a post for fun. There is always some info to it. Today I am going to growl on about some boring future of my apps and the site itself.

What I am to do first is to finish iCordion. It has been much anticipated by many of you – but I simply did not have enough time until now to do all of this! Keep in mind that I am only doing this site has a hobby, not full business. Yet, I promise that it will come and it will come like hell. It already has some 40 complete new functions that could make iCordion end up as a whole web-design application rather than just a simple app that makes jQuery Accordions!

iMap! iMap has been quite a mess in trying to make it perfect because the sitemaps not always validated with each site and thus gave errors with Google. In any case, I haven’t got a mail for the past few weeks about this issue and so iMap 2.2 is quite stable with it.
Are there still things to be improved? Yes I’ve got several things that I want to add and change. One of them is a updating system as well as saving values for multiple sites which can then be selected via a sidebar. That’s 08 stuff, nothing for 2007!

iWebExpander is my little app that hasn’t been getting much attention. It is going to be updated as well. The updating system will go in there as well. I will also add a basic search-replace function that will allow you to add much, much more to your sites without having to manually edit the HTML code.

With this post I would also say that iWebExpander has been downloaded over 10 000 times! This is just amazing. Incredible – at least from my point of view.

The tutorials are changing as well! The videos will be updated to Leopard and they will be arranged differently in this blog. I had them as separate pages, which makes them difficult to find in searches and so I will move them all into the Tutorials category.

The iWeb Templates – god – totally forgot about them. They will return – but at the moment I have no clue when that will be.

Lastly we have my recent entry into the Wordpress world. The themes are being download like crazy and so I am planning to make a new one as well.

So, that’s all the things that I have planned for the future, that at least you are allowed to know about – other things that are secret are also coming!

Oh – totally forgot about Macvotes.com. It hasn’t been getting much attention either – but I will give it a fancy design and then make it public and then, it will be a great site!
